This issue marks the final story from the WCET® Biennial Congress, held in Glasgow, in conjunction with our colleagues, the Association of Stoma Care Nurses, United Kingdom (ASCN UK). Although we have all been involved in organising conferences previously, we didn’t have a full sense of what it takes to run a congress after the implementation of the MedTec rules and what to expect after the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2019. It was the first time for us to come together as a group and have the full responsibility for monitoring this global event. For example keynote speakers were identified initially when we were planning the meeting to be held in 2020, many sponsors had already signed up to support the event. The journey has not always been easy or stressless, especially when coming close to D day, but it all proved to be worth it. Thank you to everyone for all the hard outstanding work done with a special note to Dr Pamela Cipriano, International Council of Nurses, for her recorded welcome remarks contributing to make this event memorable.1,2
After having held this very successful Congress, it is time to celebrate the 45th anniversary of our journal. Another member resource voted the best by our membership over the years, the only journal to be professionally translated into four languages other than English (Chinese, Spanish, French and Portuguese) — thanks to Coloplast China for the Chinese translation and to Calmoseptine® for the Portuguese and Spanish. This is a good opportunity to remind you all that all electronic versions of the journal are now available as free access, it is indexed with Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Embase, InfoRMIT Health and EBSCO. We are continuing to work hard to increase its indexing scope and power.
As always, following our Congress, we just have initiated a new four year term Executive Board (EB). We welcomed Dr Angela Boccara as our new Education Chairperson, Dr Katie Capitulo as Norma N Gill Foundation® Chairperson and Fiona Bolton as Treasurer who was appointed prior to Congress.
As keeping history alive is important, we have decided to create a new website page honouring our past awardees of the WCET® President’s award under the Membership tab: https://wcetn.org/page/PresidentsAward. This is another way to celebrate them.
This year will mark the call for nomination and the election of the upcoming new President Elect (2026–2030). So please stay tuned for our upcoming communication about this, our aim is to name the incoming President Elect by this September so that she/he can join the EB as a non-voting member, allowing them to be introduced into this important executive position. Let us remind you all that when we elect a President Elect, this individual will automatically become WCET® President (2030–2034) after her/his term, making it an eight year commitment.
As you may know, in less than a year, we will run our next WCET® Biennial Congress, it will be a joint congress with our colleagues from Nurses Specialised in Wound Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC), from 24–28 April 2026 in Vancouver, Canada. It will be the WCET® 25th Biennial Congress, and the 45th annual Conference for NSWOCC, which is a lot to celebrate.
Both organisations have started to work on this upcoming event. After preliminary discussions held prior to and during 2024 Congress, formal tasks have already been allocated.
The 2026 Scientific and Organising/Planning committee has been identified with representatives from the two organisations. The budget has been accepted, important deadline dates have been determined and educational/ scientific content is in process. You will find more in the advert in this issue of the Journal.
This year, as in previous years, will be an opportunity to let WCET® shine across the globe. We will represent you, if all goes to plan, in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Malaysia and Turkey. Others may be added to the plan if possible. We will take the opportunity to attend the upcoming Asia Pacific Enterostomal Therapist Nurses Association (APETNA) Conference, and at the same time continue our work on the 3rd edition of the WCET® International Ostomy Guideline (IOG), led by our methodologist for the edition, Dr Emily Haesler. Please stay tuned for more information and invitations to contribute, assess and comment on the updated statements and other content. As you may remember, the first edition of the guidelines published cultural content from 10 countries, the second edition included content from 22 countries, and we count on you to outdo yourselves in the 3rd edition. This aspect of our guidelines makes them unique and relevant to daily practice when dealing with patients who all have a range of cultural, social and/or religious beliefs. Once again many thanks to Hollister for supporting this meaningful work.
We take this opportunity to deeply appreciate Karen Bruton, past Constitution Advisory Panel (CAP) member and past Publications & Communications Chairperson, for her commitment and voluntary work on behalf of WCET® over the years. She has decided to step down from the CAP, Irma Arisanty from Indonesia has accepted and invitation to join the panel. Please join us in welcoming her into this important position and thank her in advance for her involvement.
This year will also mark the introduction of electronic voting on the proposal to raise WCET® membership fees in order to continue our worldwide mission.

Este número marca la historia final del Congreso Bienal de la WCET®, celebrado en Glasgow, en colaboración con nuestros colegas de la Asociación de Enfermeras Estomaterapeutas del Reino Unido (ASCN UK). Aunque todos hemos participado anteriormente en la organización de conferencias, no teníamos una idea completa de lo que se necesita para organizar un congreso después de la implementación de las normas MedTec y qué esperar después de la pandemia de coronavirus de 2019. Era la primera vez que nos reuníamos como grupo y teníamos la plena responsabilidad de supervisar este acontecimiento mundial. Por ejemplo, los ponentes principales se identificaron inicialmente cuando estábamos planificando la reunión que se iba a celebrar en 2020, muchos patrocinadores ya habían firmado su apoyo al evento. El camino no siempre ha sido fácil ni ha estado exento de estrés, sobre todo cuando se acercaba el día D, pero todo ha valido la pena. Gracias a todos por el excelente trabajo realizado, con una mención especial a la Dra. Pamela Cipriano, del Consejo Internacional de Enfermería, por sus palabras de bienvenida, contribuyendo a que este acontecimiento fuera memorable.1,2
Tras el éxito de este Congreso, ha llegado el momento de celebrar el 45 aniversario de nuestra revista. Otro recurso para miembros votado como el mejor por nuestros miembros a lo largo de los años, la única revista traducida profesionalmente a cuatro idiomas distintos del inglés (chino, español, francés y portugués) - gracias a Coloplast China por la traducción al chino y a Calmoseptine® por las traducciones al portugués y al español. Esta es una buena oportunidad para recordarles a todos que todas las versiones electrónicas de la revista están ahora disponibles como acceso libre, está indexada con Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Base Datos CINAHL (Índice Acumulativo de Literatura de Enfermería y Salud Afín), Embase, InfoRMIT Health y EBSCO. Como siempre, tras nuestro Congreso, acabamos de iniciar un nuevo mandato de cuatro años de la Comité Ejecutivo. Dimos la bienvenida a la Dra. Angela Boccara como nueva Presidenta de Educación, a la Dra. Katie Capitulo como Presidenta de la Fundación Norma N Gill® y a Fiona Bolton como Tesorera, que fue nombrada antes del Congreso.
Dado que mantener viva la historia es importante, hemos decidido crear una nueva página web en honor a nuestros antiguos galardonados con el Premio del Presidente del WCET® en la pestaña de Miembros: https://wcetn.org/page/PresidentsAward. Esta es otra forma de celebrarlos.
Este año tendrá lugar la convocatoria de candidaturas y la elección del próximo nuevo Presidente Electo (2026-2030). Así que, por favor, estén atentos a nuestra próxima comunicación, nuestro objetivo es nombrar al Presidente Electo entrante en septiembre para que pueda incorporarse al Comité Ejecutivo como miembro sin derecho a voto, lo que les permite ser introducidos en este importante cargo ejecutivo. Permítannos recordarles a todos que cuando elegimos a un Presidente Electo, este individuo se convertirá automáticamente en Presidente de WCET® (2030-2034) después de su mandato, lo que lo convierte en un compromiso de ocho años.
Como ya sabrán, en menos de un año, celebraremos nuestro próximo Congreso Bienal WCET®, será un congreso conjunto con nuestros colegas de Enfermeras Especializadas en continencia de ostomía de heridas de Canadá (NSWOCC), del 24 al 28 de abril de 2026 en Vancouver, Canadá. Será el 25º Congreso Bienal del WCET® y la 45ª Conferencia anual del NSWOCC, lo cual es mucho que celebrar.
Ambas organizaciones han empezado a trabajar en este próximo acontecimiento. Tras los debates preliminares celebrados antes y durante el Congreso de 2024, ya se han asignado tareas formales.
El Comité Científico y de Organización/Planificación de 2026 se ha constituido con representantes de las dos organizaciones. Se ha aceptado el presupuesto, se han determinado las fechas límite importantes y se está elaborando el contenido educativo/científico. Encontrará más información en el anuncio de este número de la Revista.
Este año, como los anteriores, será una oportunidad para que WCET® brille en todo el mundo. Le representaremos, si todo va según lo previsto, en Australia, Brasil, Canadá, Malasia y Turquía. Si es posible, pueden añadirse otros al plan. Aprovecharemos la oportunidad para asistir a la próxima Conferencia de la Asia Pacific Enterostomal Therapist Nurses Association (APETNA), y al mismo tiempo continuaremos nuestro trabajo en la 3ª edición de la WCET® International Ostomy Guideline (IOG) Directrices Internacionales sobre Ostomías, dirigido por nuestra metodóloga para la edición, la Dra. Emily Haesler. Estén atentos para recibir más información e invitaciones para contribuir, evaluar y comentar sobre las declaraciones actualizadas y otros contenidos. Como recordarán, en la primera edición de las directrices se publicaron contenidos culturales de 10 países, en la segunda se incluyeron contenidos de 22 países, y contamos con ustedes para que se superen en la 3ª edición. Este aspecto de nuestras directrices las hace únicas y pertinentes para la práctica diaria en el trato con pacientes que tienen creencias culturales, sociales y/o religiosas muy diversas. Una vez más, muchas gracias a Hollister por apoyar esta importante labor.
Aprovechamos esta oportunidad para expresar nuestro profundo agradecimiento a Karen Bruton, antigua miembro de la Comisión Asesora sobre Estatutos (CAP) y antigua Presidenta de Publicaciones y Comunicaciones, por su compromiso y trabajo voluntario en nombre de WCET® a lo largo de los años. Ha decidido dimitir de la CAP e Irma Arisanty, de Indonesia, ha aceptado la invitación para formar parte del panel. Por favor, únase a nosotros para darle la bienvenida a este importante puesto y agradecerle de antemano su implicación.
Este año también marcará la introducción del voto electrónico en la propuesta de aumentar las cuotas de afiliación al WCET® con el fin de continuar nuestra misión mundial.
