This issue marks the end of my time as Editor of Wound Practice and Research. After 15 years at the journal’s helm, I have decided to hand over the stewardship of our much-loved journal to other committed and talented people.

My role as Editor first commenced in 2006 when I joined Michael Woodward AM as joint Editor of WPR. My task was to fill the hole left by the irreplaceable Founding Editor Jenny Prentice, but Michael’s passion and enthusiasm soon helped me to get to grips with the role which we subsequently shared for the next 9 years. Michael and I oversaw many changes with the journal during this time, including its name change (from Primary Intention), the implementation of an online submission system and inclusion of evidence-based summaries. We were pleased to see the journal grow in stature and reputation during this time. When Michael stepped down in 2016, I continued as sole Editor and, with the support of the Editorial Board, was pleased to see the journal continue to gain momentum. During this time, we launched the WPR website which enabled the journal to have online issues and articles. A new submission template was developed, and significant time was invested in improving the governance of the journal. We made multiple cases for WPR to be included in important search engines and I am pleased to announce that Scopus have agreed to bring WPR into their listings. This, alongside Clarivate Web of Science, is continuing to promote our international credibility which is helping to fuel our citations and impact factor. Finally, we have seen the journal transition into a free of charge, open access journal, making it the go-to journal for authors not only in Australia but from all around the world.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the incredible team at Cambridge Media that work hard behind the scenes to publish the journal every quarter. Greg Paull and his team, particularly Gordon McDade (graphic designer) and Ceridwen Clocherty (copy editor), help turn our authors’ submissions into the professional papers that you see in every page of the journal.

I am pleased to be able to tell you that the Wounds Australia Board have approved my recommendation for the new joint Editors Dr Peta Tehan and Dr Zlatko Kopecki. Peta and Zlatko bring a combination of clinical and research experience to the role, and I am confident they will be able to drive further international success of the journal over the coming years. Under this new leadership, and with the support of the Editorial Board and Wounds Australia, I am confident that Wound Practice and Research will continue to be successful for another 15 years.
