In 2021, the Journal of Wound Management, the official journal of EWMA, started life under a new name. We moved from the former EWMA journal to the new title. The name change was not a cosmetic exercise, but rather the start of a process of renewal that aims to see the Journal of Wound Management become a key publication in the field of wound care.

As we come to the end of 2022, it is time to take stock and to thank all the authors who have trusted us with their work. The quality of any journal centres around a rigorous peer-review process, and we are grateful to the many colleagues who have taken the time to provide such reviews and critical feedback to authors and, in so doing, ensuring we build the quality of the journal.

Since 2021, we have had submissions from all corners of the world, truly representing the global reach of both EWMA and the journal. Our first special issue on skin tears was a huge success, with nine scientific papers raising awareness on an area of wound care that is ripe for prevention strategies. Plans are underway for a special issue on compression due in 2023.

The Journal of Wound Management offers many advantages to authors, including, for example: all articles being free to access and free to download, thus ensuring our articles and associated knowledge are open to the world; the global network of EWMA ensures that all issues are disseminated to thousands of readers once published; and early online access, which ensures that all articles, once accepted, are available to authors and readers alike.

Wounds have an enormous emotional, psychological, social and financial impact on the lives of individuals, their families and wider society. Wound management is still fighting for attention with policy makers and in the allocation of health care resources. Journals such as the Journal of Wound Management have the potential to influence policy and policymakers, but it depends on you, the authors, to build that base. We look forward to your contributions and working with you all to improve the lives of those impacted by wounds.
