Wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) nursing core curriculum textbooks, of which Wound Management is one of three, have been developed and published by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society to support the novice practitioner or student in wound management programs. With 60 contributors, most of whom are wound care nurses, the book is also a valuable resource to the experienced clinician as it has been written “by wound care clinicians, for wound care clinicians.”

The book is split into two parts: General Concepts and Specific Wounds. General Concepts covers anatomy and physiology of the skin, wound healing, assessment and general principles such as topical negative therapy, infection, wound debridement, wound cleansing and dressing selection. It is patient-focused and also covers educating the patient and caregiver, nutrition and special populations. Part two, Specific Wounds, covers pressure injuries, lower leg ulcers, infectious processes, dermatological conditions, oncology, burns, trauma, surgical wounds, palliative care and fistula management.

Curriculum objectives and topical outlines give the reader an overview at the commencement of each chapter and, to highlight key messages, clinical pearls are dispersed throughout. Illustrations, colour photographs, tables and boxes are included in each chapter along with a questions and answers section at the end of the chapter to enable the readers to complete self-assessment.

The beginning of the book contains a lovely tribute to Dr Jo Anne Maklebust, one of the book's contributors and founding member of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP). She made many important contributions to the field of nursing, especially in pressure injury treatment and management. At the age of 80, she graduated with her Doctor of Nursing Practice and sadly passed away in 2014.

The book is well set out, easy to read and covers a broad range of wound management topics. It will assist the novice through to the expert.
