Keryln Carville’s Wound Care Manual is now in its 7th edition, which is 24 years since the first edition was published. The book continues to be user-friendly, with the same layout as previous editions. New additions to the book include a chapter on moisture-associated skin damage and the disorders that are associated with this topic as well as an update on national wound standards and guidelines.

The book has 27 chapters, with each chapter consisting of subheadings, references and blue boxes with useful clinical hints and tips. Various colour photographs, diagrams and tables relevant to chapter topics enhance the reader’s experience.

Topics covered include anatomy and physiology of the skin, aberrant wound healing, assessment and factors that influence healing. Further chapters cover management of wound types, including acute wound management, burns, skin tears, chronic wounds, leg ulcers, the neuropathic foot, atypical leg ulcers, malignant wounds, draining wounds, drains and percutaneous tubes, peristomal wounds and pressure injuries. The Practice Under The Banyan Tree chapter provides clinicians with creative alternatives for draining wounds when commercial devices are not available. The final chapters cover wound-cleansing agents, dressings, bioengineered tissue, bandages and surgical stockings.

Wound management topics are comprehensively covered and well referenced. This book is an excellent resource for the beginner practitioner seeking fundamental knowledge and skills in wound management. Its use and value also extend through to the expert wound clinician.
