International Collaboration

The WCET® Executive Board has been very hard at work for our members. The Congress Planning Committee consisting of representatives from the WCET® and ASCN-UK have been meeting to further plan the next biennial Congress in Glasgow, Scotland to be held October 2020.

Likewise, the Scientific Committee, also a blend of representatives from both organisations, is diligently finalising the keynote and invited speakers. Do check out the Congress website at https://www.wcet-ascnuk2020.com for the latest information.

By the time you read this, the call for abstracts will be open so start planning your abstract now. One of the strengths of the biennial Congress is the many abstracts submitted by our members and colleagues worldwide. I always look forward to reading the posters and hearing the oral abstract presentations and encourage you to participate in the Glasgow Congress.

The opportunity to share knowledge and explore new and different options for patient strategies will hopefully encourage you to write an abstract. It is so interesting to see the commonalities of clinical problems we are all faced with in practice. Learning about what nurses and other health professionals from around the world are doing is not only enriching but inspirational. All of us do hope you will take the time and submit your research, case study and/or clinical insights as an abstract.

WCET® has been one of the professional organisations that has members on small working groups for the third edition of the EPUAP NPUAP/PPPIA International Pressure Injury Clinical Guideline. Thank you to our members who gave their volunteer time to develop a section of the guideline.

As well as individual stakeholders from around the world, the WCET® Executive Board, on behalf of the WCET®, has had the opportunity to review, comment and endorse the guideline. This widespread global collaboration of individual stakeholders and professional associations has resulted in the development of a new guideline based on extensive synthesis of the latest evidence. If you can, plan to attend the International launch of the guideline on 15 and 16 November 2019 in Los Angeles, California. You can find out more information on the NPUAP website www.npuap.org.

So as we look forward to celebrating world Ostomy Day on 5 October, and all the other wonderful achievements that will be happening soon, lets keep in mind the value of collaboration. As Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

Sincerely

Elizabeth

Elizabeth
