Aim To determine patient outcomes reported by wound/ostomy nurses, surgeons, individuals with intestinal stomas and their caregivers.

Methods A qualitative phenomenology design was used. The sample comprised wound/ostomy nurses (n=9), surgeons (n=9), caregivers (n=9) and ostomy patients (n=9), in all 21 women and 15 men in Turkey. The consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research was used. The study was conducted with the nurses working in nine stomatherapy units in Turkey. Written permission from the relevant ethics committee and verbal permission from the participants were obtained. The interviews were conducted online using a semi-structured interview form between June 2020 and 2021. Descriptive statistics and content analysis methods were used.

Results The recovery indicators were grouped under the headings of: indicators of general health status; indicators of daily living activities; indicators of social life and adaptation relationships; indicators of psychological well-being; stoma management; and empowering the individual.

Conclusion These results are relevant to planning training and consultancy services, starting from the preoperative period of the individual with stoma through to developing institutional care strategies and algorithms and creating relevant guides in the literature.

Rectal cancer treatment, such as surgery termed an anterior resection, can result in bowel symptoms termed low anterior resection syndrome (LARS). Globally thousands of people each year are likely to experience LARS, which can reduce quality of life. Nursing intervention, such as supporting self management of symptoms by providing advice, can improve symptoms. Understanding LARS and its causes can help nurses to provide support to patients, and knowing what interventions might be useful in specific situations can assist nurses with limited experience of LARS to have confidence to provide the necessary patient care.

Objective The aim of this study is to present three cases demonstrating the positive effect of a wound dressing with a wound-cleaning absorption mechanism in patients with cavitary, infected, exudative pressure injuries.

Methods Consecutive patients treated with a hydro-responsive wound dressing were prospectively followed up, and wound healing parameters and the autolytic debridement process were recorded. Informed consent was obtained from all patients included in the study, and clinical data were collected using a standardised assessment form.

Conclusion The hydro-responsive wound dressing demonstrated a healing effect on cavitated, infected, exudative wounds.

Objective This study aimed to define the concept of nephrostomy; map nursing care and interventions for patients with a nephrostomy; and identify outcomes associated with nursing interventions.

Methods A scoping review was conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. Databases were searched (PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, RCAAP), 118 studies were identified. Of these, six met the inclusion criteria. Relevant grey literature identified by the authors was also included (n=8), resulting in a total of 14 articles included in the research.

Results A narrative synthesis revealed substantial methodological heterogeneity, predominantly narrative reviews, retrospective studies and expert consensus-based guidelines, across hospital and community settings. Evidence focused on direct care, self-care education, infection and complication prevention and care algorithms, with variation in practices and limited clinically validated outcomes.

Conclusion Available evidence is limited and does not support the identification of specific nursing interventions for patients with nephrostomy associated with reduced complications or improved quality of life. Most recommendations are based on expert consensus and best practice, highlighting the need for further clinical research.
